Back to school 2023: are you from zone A, B or C?

The schedule school holidays 2023-2024 appeared in the December 8, 2022 edition of the Official Journal. This one hasn't changed much . It is always divided into 5 lesson intervals, interspersed by: All Saints' Day, Christmas, winter, spring and summer holidays. First day summer vacation determines the end of the school year . According to the Ministry of National Education website:

“The departure on vacation takes place after class, the resumption of classes in the morning of the days indicated. The holidays begin on Saturday, for students who do not have class that day, the departure takes place on Friday after class.

As a reminder, the date of the school holidays is different depending on the geographic location of each student . Also, metropolitan France has 3 academic areas :

• Zone A is made up of the academies of Besançon, Bordeaux, Clermont-Ferrand, Dijon, Grenoble, Limoges, Lyon and Poitiers.
• Zone B includes schools in Aix-Marseille, Amiens, Lille, Nancy-Metz, Nantes, Nice, Normandy, Orléans-Tours, Reims, Rennes and Strasbourg.
• C-zone refers to the academies of Créteil , Montpellier, Paris, Toulouse and Versailles.

Key dates for the 2023-2024 school year

Monday, September 4 marks the start of the 2023 school year for the students. As every year, the teachers will return to schools sooner , i.e. September 1, 2023.

All Saints' Day and Christmas holidays

All Saints' Day and Christmas holidays will arrive at the same time for the three zones academics from France. They will take place from Saturday October 21, 2023 until Sunday November 5, 2023. Pupils will return to class from November 6, 2023. The Christmas holidays will begin on Saturday December 23, 2023 and end on Monday January 8, 2024.

Winter, spring and summer holiday dates

Students from each area will not go on winter vacation at the same time and spring. Parents should therefore refer to the following dates.

Schools in zone C will be the first to go on winter vacation: Saturday February 10, 2024 and will return on Monday February 26, 2024. For students in zone A, these will take place from February 17, 2024 to Monday March 4, 2024. For Zone C, it will be Saturday February 24 until Monday March 11, 2024 .

The dates for spring break won't be the same either. The students of zone C will be on vacation, first , i.e. from Saturday April 6, 2024 until Monday April 22, 2024. The pupils of zone A, for their part, will leave on Saturday April 13, 2024 and will return to class on Monday April 29, 2024. For pupils of zone C, spring break are fixed for Saturday April 20, 2024 until Monday May 6, 2024 .

The starting point of the summer holidays is scheduled for Saturday, July 6, 2024 . All schoolchildren, college and high school students in France will be able to take advantage of two months of vacation before the next school year 2023.

What does the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school holiday calendar look like?
