Livret A: a very advantageous rate from February 1, 2023, what gain for you?

Since the beginning of 2022, prices have continued to rise in all sectors. Heating, food, travel… Everything costs more. According to INSEE, inflation even reached 5.9% during the month of December. A situation that weighs heavily on the budget of the population. Luckily, amidst all this bad news, there's a pretty one for savers. In effect, the Minister of the Economy has announced that the rate of the Livret A will increase to 3% from February 1, 2023. This increase should allow the French to save more in such a harsh economic context.

The remuneration of the booklet A on the rise

Yes this increase in the interest rate follows inflation , there is nothing automatic about it. Also, it occurs following a decision of the Ministry of the Economy. It is therefore not a rate that is really indexed to the increase in the cost of living. Certainly, to determine the necessary increase, Bercy officials use a formula based on price increases . However, by following this calculation, the remuneration of the livret A should have increased to 3.3%.

However, the governor of the Bank of France wanted to reduce this increase to 3%. To justify his position, Francois Villeroy de Galhau mentioned exceptional circumstances. And possible harmful effects in the event of an excessive increase in the interest rate of the livret A. ' This rate is in particular central for the financing of social housing and urban policy. Too high a rate would be very unfavorable to this key sector for our social cohesion and our economic activity. »

The head of the Banque de France also recalls that this is the 3ᵉ increase of the remuneration of the booklet A in a few months. This already represents a significant increase in the remuneration of the livret A compared to the 2% in force since August 1, and the 1% a year ago. It is desirable that the rate movements of the livret A remain progressive rather than too volatile, and this on the rise as a day potentially on the decline. »

Always more savings for the French

Near 80% of French people already have a booklet A . Moreover, in recent months, this investment has experienced a certain enthusiasm. “The simplification of opening procedures, promotion and remuneration led to more than 2 million openings in 2022.”

Moreover, in addition to the booklet A, the LDDS will also see its interest rate drop to 3% next month . As for the popular savings account, an even greater increase is to be expected. Thus, LEP will provide a rate of 6.1% . Unlike the Livret A, it therefore compensates for the effects of inflation on your savings. However, this placement only concerns people who meet certain criteria. Thus, to benefit from it, you must reside in France. But you also have to justify taxable income of less than 21,393 euros per tax share .

Let's hope that the increase in the remuneration of the livret A can help the French to boost their savings . Indeed, nowadays, many households tend to end the month in the red.
