Massive recall: oysters affected by a recall procedure

French oysters are once again withdrawn from consumption, notes The Independent. The government site for dangerous product alerts launched a massive recall on Friday of oysters contaminated with listeria and norovirus. Then this Monday, January 2, Reminder Conso launches a new campaign concerning different species in many stores in France .

Massive reminder: which oysters are concerned?

This year, the end of year celebrations ironically weren't the best time to eat oysters. In effect, a second recall procedure massive was born this Monday throughout France concerning this seafood, reports The Independent.

This new recall concerns different types of oysters, mainly Bouzigues oysters, infected with listeria and norovirus .

Recall of Bouzigues oysters sold in Intermarché stores , Carrefour, Leclerc and Super U throughout France between December 16 and 29, 2022. These oysters are the special Bouzigues oysters , fine Bouzigues oysters and special premium Bouzigues oysters from the brand “The beautiful Occitan of Bouzigues”.

Recall of Bouzigues oysters sold in Intermarché stores from all over France between December 15 and 27, 2022. It concerns the model d'huîtres « bz » from the brand Gaec Mistral.

The recall of Bouzigues oysters sold in U stores in the south of France . This concerns the Hollow oyster model 3 x 24 pieces, lots 125626, 125693, 125699, 125768 and 125865.

Recall of oysters, mussels and clams marketed on December 15, 2022 in large and medium-sized fishmongers. That concerns the filter shells models of the Etang de Thau in baskets or in bulk.

'People who have consumed the products mentioned above and who show symptoms of gastroenteritis (vomiting, diarrhea frequently accompanied by moderate fever), are invited to consult their doctor', said the government recall site .

That's not all ! Immunocompromised people are particularly attentive to these symptoms . The symptoms in question can lead to infection by a virus (Norovirus), responsible for gastroenteritis, including the incubation period can be up to 48 hours .

Mussels, oysters, contaminated with a virus

This is not the first time that oysters are victims of a massive recall . On New Year's Eve, oysters, clams and mussels from the Thau pond were prohibited for sale .

These products are infected with norovirus . This infectious agent is particularly contagious and causes diarrhea and vomiting, symptoms that usually occur between 6 and 48 hours after eating shellfish.

A decree is taken this Friday, December 30 by the prefecture of Hérault:

“Following several declared cases of collective food poisoning due to the consumption of oysters from the Thau pond, analyzes of the shellfish demonstrated the presence of norovirus. »

In addition, the Hérault prefecture specifies that shellfish are contaminated and after an “intense” storm December 15. This measure will end 'as soon as the health security conditions meet for a reopening of the production areas' .

If by chance you get seashells from the Etang de Thau, bring them back to the point of sale where the purchase is made. Indeed, for the third time in 2022, producers in this basin are subject to such restrictions? Thus, it is a disappointment for this pool of production of 7000 hectares located not far from Sète .

As a reminder, the Etang de Thau is the first shellfish-growing area in the Mediterranean . It represents 10% of the national production of oysters and concentrates 3,000 jobs .
